Shay Baecker entered Saint Paul College through the PSEO program as a shy person who now loves connecting and socializing with the campus community. Though initially skeptical that she could effectively transition from high school to college, she says that step was made so easy due to the supportive friends and faculty she has met throughout her time on campus. Shay enjoys the positive connections so much that she applied to work with the Student Senate as their Events and Communication Coordinator. She is now happily employed 12 hours weekly, creating exciting events for students to enjoy and connect.

Recently, Shay organized the SPC Winter Carnival event, where students could connect over hot cocoa and cookies and create their own stuffed animals. She is working with United Way to launch Flavors of Our Community, a program that unites students and staff to pack hundreds of culturally appropriate foods, similar to Feed My Starving Children. Shay also enjoys the communications part of this job, as she creates flyers and various communication pieces for distribution via numerous platforms and public distributions.

Getting the word out to my fellow students about the many fun activities we offer on campus brings much joy to my heart
