Saint Paul College awarded over $145,000 in scholarships to over 130 students this semester. These funds empowered many students to succeed, and these stories came together at the annual Scholarship Luncheon, which featured two student stories.

Kisha Neely is an adult learner who found her home at SPC after a few planned and unplanned breaks in her educational journey. She shared how thankful she is to SPC’s many advisors, faculty, and staff for helping her find and nurture her passion for pursuing her English Transfer Pathway degree. Her scholarship gave her a boost to persist in her journey, a trait this mother is now passing on to her son, who plans to attend college in a few years. Kisha concluded that the financial support gave her confidence to move forward, knowing many were behind her pursuit.

The second student speaker was Steve Combs, who now actively serves other students as a Peer Mentor for the SPC ILEAD Fellowship program. Even though Steve is older than all his teachers, he laughs and says he is not too old to keep learning. Steve’s scholarship boosted his long journey from military service to various careers. It also put him back on track to pursue a History Transfer Pathway and his personal goal of writing a historical fiction book about the Buffalo Soldiers.

More than 100 students, donors, and family and friends attended the luncheon, sharing stories and celebrating scholarships’ ability to change lives.
