Friends of Saint Paul College has received $35,000 in grant funding to provide New American Scholarships to 25 students during academic year 2016-2017. New Americans are foreign born individuals and their children. The
Marbrook Foundation awarded $15,000 for New American Scholarships of $1,000 each to 15 students. The
Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi Foundation for Children awarded $20,000 for New American Scholarships of $2,000 each to 10 students.
According to the
Immigration Policy Center, New Americans account for a large and growing share of the economy and population in Minnesota. Immigrants (foreign-born) make up 7.3% of the state’s population, with 45.9% of them who are naturalized U.S. citizens.
“We are honored to receive grant awards this year from both the
Marbrook Foundation and the
Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi Foundation for Children. This funding will help New Americans pay for postsecondary education in their own community,” said Rassoul Dastmozd, President of Saint Paul College.
Friends of Saint Paul College meets the needs of New Americans, by providing scholarships designated to Saint Paul College students in partnership with the
International Institute of Minnesota (IIM). IIM assists New Americans in their transition to a self-sufficient life in the United States. Students receive scholarship awards to help them enter, progress through and complete college programs. New American Scholarship recipients also receive support to secure employment in their field of study.
