U.S. Labor Secretary Thomas Perez visited Saint Paul
College Friday, promoting workforce and educational pathways. He was joined by Mayor
Chris Coleman, to highlight to partnerships that exist between the City of
Saint Paul, Saint Paul Public Schools, and Saint Paul College.
During his visit, Secretary Perez toured campus and met
with Computer Science students and their instructors, Warren Sheaffer and Jim
Woodcock. Secretary Perez also engaged in a round table discussion where he
listened to students’ experiences with education and partnership programs in
Saint Paul.
The U.S. Department of Labor recently awarded Saint
Paul Public Schools a four-year, $3.7 million grant to expand an Academy of Finance
at Como Park Senior High School and to create a new Academy of Information
Technology at Humboldt High School. Saint Paul College is the post-secondary
partner to the Youth CareerConnect program and will offer two-year degree
programs in these fields to prepare students for high-demand STEM jobs.
