Minnesota State just released the results of a study that estimates the regional economic impact of Saint Paul College to be $281.4 million per year. The economic activity of the College also supports and sustains an estimated 2,432 jobs in the state and local communities. Overall, the 30 colleges and seven universities that comprise Minnesota State contributed over $8.0 billion to the state’s economy in FY2017.
“Saint Paul College is key to our local economy. We are the only public two-year community and technical college in St. Paul, and we have been in existence for over 108 years,” said Dr. Rassoul Dastmozd, president/CEO. “At Saint Paul College, our students come first. It is our mission to provide education for meaningful and gainful employment for our graduates or connections to colleges and universities to pursue their four-year degrees. We focus on building bridges of opportunity and success for our students through the beneficial relationships we have with our partners and employers in the community.”
The study was conducted by Parker Philips, a nationally recognized consulting firm specializing in economic impact analysis. Nichole Parker, a principal partner at Parker Philips, said, “Economic contribution analysis is an objective way to measure the significance of an organization in the state and regional economy. It is a tool that policy makers can use to inform their decisions. The colleges and universities of Minnesota State clearly make a major contribution to their local, state, and regional economies.”
The study also concluded that Saint Paul College generates about $16.6 million in state and local tax revenues through its local spending and the jobs it supports or sustains.
Saint Paul College also makes a long-term contribution to the regional economy with every graduating class. There are an estimated 48,000 alumni living and working in the state. Assuming that a career lasts for 40 years, Saint Paul College alumni currently living in Minnesota will have contributed nearly $7.7 billion in economic impact over the span of their careers.
An estimated $2.0 million in charitable donations and volunteer services are generated annually by Saint Paul College faculty, staff, and students.
