Saint
Paul College is pleased to announce
that it has received two grant awards from Great Lakes Higher Education
Guaranty Corporation for high school college readiness programs at Saint Paul
College. Both will be implemented during the 2014-2015 academic year.
The first
award of $86,200 will fund the College Within Reach program, in partnership with
Johnson, Harding and Gordon Parks high schools of Saint Paul Public Schools.
The program instructs and mentors 75 traditionally underrepresented twelfth
grade students, preparing them to succeed and bypass developmental mathematics
courses in college.
The second
award of $178,773 is a continuation grant to fund afterschool academic
intervention for 75 tenth and eleventh grade students from three Saint Paul
area schools of Humboldt High School, Hmong College Prep Academy and Community
of Peace Charter School. The program improves competencies in reading and
mathematics, while connecting students and their families to the
“college-going” culture.
“We are honored to be chosen by Great Lakes to
ensure that high school students receive the academic support they need to
prepare for college,” said Laura Savin, Executive Director of Friends of Saint
Paul College.
