On Thursday, April 17, 2014, nearly two-hundred friends
and supporters of Saint Paul College gathered on campus to celebrate the 2014 Saint
Paul College Wall of Fame Recognition Event. Each year, the College recognizes
an alumnus and an community partner that have made an outstanding contribution
to the success of our college.
Jane Graupman, Executive Director
of the International Institute of Minnesota, received the Community Partner of
the Year Award. Nathaniel Khaliq, a community activist, business owner, former
NAACP-Saint Paul Branch president, retired Saint Paul fire fighter and former
Saint Paul City Council interim councilman received the Alumnus of the Year
Award.
Various
friends, family members, colleagues, dignitaries and well-wishers were there to
acknowledge and applaud the award recipients, who have given of themselves for
the benefit of others. Speakers and award presenters included Dr. Rassoul
Dastmozd, president of Saint Paul College, Mary Shearen, Chair of the Friends
of Saint Paul College Foundation board, Saint Paul mayor, Chris Coleman, Megan
Barp, Twin Cities United Way Senior Vice President, and the director of the
Office of Early Learning for the Minnesota Department of Education, Melvin
Carter, III.
