Fortune Min is a motivated Geographic Information Science (GIS) student who loves using technology to persuade decision-makers. Her background includes serving as a Hospital Corpsman for the US Navy in Southern Spain before being honorably discharged. Now, as a non-traditional student, she wants to pursue a new career track using GIS to help illustrate key points using spatial analysis and visual presentations.
Valuing strong connections and community support, Fortune chose Saint Paul College because of its smaller class sizes and vibrant campus setting. Beyond the lower tuition costs, she appreciates her instructors’ consideration of ways to optimize her learning experiences. Her GIS classes have opened her eyes to the power of ever-evolving technology, and she wants to now share this with other interested students from all studies.
Fortune and a few other students started the GISC & Data Analytics student group in the Fall of 2024. This student group currently has six active members, and she wants to welcome more students to become a formal student organization. She believes the group helps all students with memory retention, spatial thinking, and other related critical learning skills. Her ultimate goal in establishing this new student organization is to procure drones to help collect raw data and help with labs. She believes this could help set up real-life internship possibilities where the SPC Community can support important community data collection projects.
Her career goals are undecided at this time, but she loves how the GIS field allows her to pursue many options, including medical GIS, Department of Natural Resources, Coding, Sciences, Technician, or General Analyst. With a focus on persuading decision-makers, she is excited about the vast array of options this program offers her in her new journey!
