In this powerful and informative video, Saint Paul College presents a new addition to the Minnesota State Sexual Violence Prevention Training, just for our community. In 2015, the Minnesota legislature took bold action, requiring colleges and universities to provide information to students that would educate them about and protect them from sexual violence, relationship violence, stalking, and sexual harassment. At Saint Paul College, a grant from the United States Department of Justice’s Office of Violence Against Women enabled us to deepen the training used across the Minnesota State system and put a face to the committed and compassionate professionals available to support student survivors. Dedicated to shedding light on the reality of sexual violence, relationship violence, and stalking, this video strives to ensure that no student feels alone or unsupported in their struggle.
Mike Gerold, Saint Paul College’s Title IX coordinator; Shelly Kline, the Executive Director of the St. Paul Ramsey County Domestic Abuse Intervention Project; Kalease Smith, an advocate with SOS Sexual Violence Services; Abigail Fliegel, a nurse educator at Regions Hospital’s SANE program; Merrie Haskins, Saint Paul College’s Mental Health Director; Sgt. Vlad Krumgant from the St. Paul Police Department Sexual Violence Unit and Saint Paul College Public Safety Officer Rain Detvongsa all make appearances in the video, highlighting their roles in supporting and aiding students who have faced various forms of sexual violence. These expert voices underline the importance of understanding, compassion, confidentiality, and respect in their services.
The message is clear: “You matter”.
So, this video is a must-watch whether you’re a student who needs information or support or a member of the wider community aiming to deepen your understanding of these issues. Be part of the solution and watch the complete video to learn how we can make our campus and community safer and more supportive.
