More than 20 SPC Pharmacy Technician faculty and students attended the MSHP 2024 Pharmacy Technician Conference at the Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center, MN. The theme of the conference was “Possibilities are Endless.” Essential pharmacy profession topics covered at the conference included:
- Identifying timely and relevant inpatient, ambulatory care, and specialty pharmacy topics.
- Developing leadership and precepting skills.
- Participating in professional networking sessions for pharmacists, technicians, and learners.
Students learned about the need for qualified pharmacy technicians and updates from the MN Board of Pharmacy. Between sessions, students and faculty interacted with drug representatives, medical device suppliers, and employers to learn about emerging topics in pharmacy. Students also learned about national certification and supportive resources from Pharmacy Technician Certification Board members.
Sabrina Hemmerling, SPC Health Care and Pharmacy Technician Instructor, shared how SPC had the largest representation at the conference and that the theme “Possibilities are Endless” aligns with her view of the robust market she sees with her students. She added that our entry and advanced training programs allow students to simulate skills directly in the lab and successfully transfer these skills to the real world in numerous health-related markets. Maddie and Jada excitedly share their thoughts:
“Something meaningful that stuck out to me was when someone asked if technicians would ever be on the pharmacy board. The presenter responded that it was possible and that she would be willing to help take the steps forward to make that happen.”
Maddie Coffman, Pharmacy Technician AAS
“It is cool to see advancement for pharmacy technicians with a clear pathway for endless professional possibilities!”
