Gozel Rahymjanova

Meet Gozel Rahymjanova, SPC Student Senate President for the 2024-25 school year. Gozel came to the US in July 2023 from Turkmenistan (a nation just north of Iran) to earn her education. She learned that the United States offered many opportunities through an 18-week Prep4Success class offered by the American Council in the US Embassy. Gozel met an instructor in this course who inspired her to consider attending college in Minnesota. She visited SPC right after landing in the US and immediately felt a special connection to the amazing college community she calls home. After one year at SPC, she describes the campus vibe as amazing. She also describes her instructors as kind, fun, and informative.

A fast learner, Gozel earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate last summer. She plans to receive two two-year degrees next May, one in Science & Engineering Tech and the other in the Health Science Broad field. After earning these two degrees, she plans to transfer to a local University to study Biomedical Engineering. In addition to her studies, she actively serves as a Math Peer Mentor in the Tutoring Center, Ambassador for the Cap-sh Program for Health Science, and XYZ with the We Thrive Program. In her “spare time,” Gozel enjoys being a gym rat!

Gozel Rahymjanova

After serving as Student Senate Secretary last semester, she was motivated to consider serving as President to continue the great work she saw in the past president, Rejoice Udochukwu. She also enjoys meeting with SPC President Deidra Peaslee, who she describes as an amazing leader who actively supports and promotes initiatives that benefit student learning opportunities. Gozel describes advocating for students as a privilege that gives her tremendous fulfillment. Her four goals for the Student Senate, in no particular order, for the school year are:

  1. Identifying important teaching tools that may be missing for helping students;
  2. Determining what is helpful for students, including support of student organizations;
  3. Creating a stronger community that is heard and supported; and
  4. Increasing transparency about the price students pay for their college experiences.
