Working jointly with HealthPartners, the SPC Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program provides students with beneficial clinical experience opportunities. HealthPartners also collaborates with Wallin Education Partners, offering healthcare students scholarships and paid internships. Two SPC MLT program students attended their required MLT seminar this past June, during which  Wallin Partners presented a scholarship opportunity to students in this incoming cohort of MLT Majors.  Both later walked away with $6,000.00 in scholarships to help support their educational endeavors. In addition, each student receives an advisor from Wallin, a mentor from HealthPartners, and a paid summer internship!

One of these students is Chuki Tsering, who came to SPC from a diverse background in Nepal, India, Canada, and New York. She chose SPC because the MLT program aligns perfectly with her career aspirations. She considers herself an introvert, so working in the medical laboratory in the healthcare industry fits her personality and passions well. The comprehensive curriculum, modern facilities, experienced faculty, and hands-on training opportunities made SPC’s MLT program a great choice.

As a first-year student, Chuki is very impressed with the campus vibrancy and community support she receives from faculty, staff, and fellow students. This support helps her feel confident in her future. Her dream is to become a medical laboratory scientist and a baccalaureate-degreed practitioner in the medical laboratory science profession. SPC provides her with a strong foundation of knowledge and skills.

Receiving money is fun. Chuki fondly remembers opening her email from Wallin Partners with the first letters in bold saying “CONGRATULATIONS.” She felt an overwhelming sense of excitement and gratitude. It was her first time applying for a scholarship, and being awarded this scholarship truly felt surreal and validating. Besides lifting challenging financial burdens, she appreciates this scholarship, which allows her to spend quality time with her family while pursuing her dream career.
