Some of the items we assist students with include logging into campus computers, printing, connecting to wireless, accessing email, and using D2L Brightspace.

The IT Help Desk cannot perform troubleshooting or repairs on personally-owned devices. ​

Acceptable Use Policy

​Please refer to Minnesota State Board Policy 5.22 and Board Policy 5.22.1 regarding Acceptable Use of Computers and Information Technology Resources.

E-mail (Office 365)

Saint Paul College uses Office 365 for student email. Office 365 provides email, online storage (OneDrive), and the Microsoft Office suite.

  • Logging into E-mail
    • From the College website, select “Student Email Login” under “Student Login”. Enter your StarID and Password and click SIGN IN. You will be redirected to the student Office 365 email service.
  • Reset my Password
    • Use your StarID to login to email. If you need to reset or have forgotten your password, you will need to go to the StarID Self Service website at
  • Look up my email address
    • Visit the Student Email page and scroll to the bottom to lookup your email address.

    • The Office 365 Help Site provides instructions and wizards to assist you in sending email to your phone. Use the “Mobile Phone Setup Wizard”. Additional information you will need:
    • Domain/Username = (*if DOMAIN and USERNAME are separate fields, leave DOMAIN blank and enter the information in the USERNAME field)
    • Password = your StarID password
    • Server Name =*sometimes using works instead)
D2L Brightspace (Online Learning)

D2L Brightspace is the College’s online learning management system (or LMS). It is used to access online classes. In addition, face-to-face courses may also have assignments and other materials posted online.


eServices is the Minnesota State online tool used by students to register for courses, view grades, obtain transcripts, update records, obtain financial aid award letters, and more.

You can access eServices by clicking the link available under “Student Login” at the top of each page of the College website.

Login using your StarID and password.

Microsoft Office Software (Office ProPlus) – FREE

Office 365 ProPlus is a FREE, full version of the Microsoft Office suite. It is available to all current Saint Paul College students. After students graduate or leave the College, this free license will become void. A consumer license will need to be purchased at that time.

OneDrive (Office 365)

The Office 365 student email offers OneDrive, which provides students with 1 TB (terabyte) of FREE online storage space for their files. You can upload a variety of documents including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDFs, music, photos – almost any file you want.

Open Computer Labs

The Open Computer Labs are available for current Saint Paul College students, and provide Windows PCs with USB flash drives, optical drives (CD-RW/DVD), and audio capabilities (users must supply their own headsets or earbuds). Both labs offer black and white printing.

The Main Open Computer Lab (room 3225) is equipped with five Macintosh computers, some additional specialty software, and a black and white copier equipped with digital document scanning capabilities.

  • Open Computer Lab Guidelines
  • Out of respect for all students, please follow these rules when using open computer lab spaces:

    • Open computer labs are quiet, individual study spaces. Please refrain from excess noise.
    • Group study is not permitted. Group study is available in the Library Commons and designated rooms inside the Library.
    • Food and beverages are not permitted.
    • Cell phone use is prohibited, and phones should be either turned off or set to vibrate/silent.
    • ​ Children are not allowed.


Student printing is available on campus. A black and white, single-sided print costs $0.05. Printouts are tracked and charged to students using the GoPrint tracking system.

  • Student Printing Locations
    • Student printing is available in the Open Computer Labs (room 3225 main lab and CLC 909), the student Commons area (across from the library and cafeteria) and in the campus library.
  • Printing Allowance and Refunds
    • Printing allowances are given to current semester enrolled Saint Paul College students only.
    • Current students are given GoPrint “purse” printing accounts that contain a select amount of funds in the purse at the start of each semester. This amount is subject to change.
    • The print balance is erased and restored each semester. Conserve your printing allowance.
    • No refunds are issued for user printing errors. Preview your print job thoroughly before sending and releasing to print.
  • Refilling print accounts
    • If a purse is depleted of all funds, money may be added either by using a GoPrint “Add Value Station” located in the 3225 Open Computer Lab or via payment at the tuition office window on the first floor.
  • How to print
    1. ​Login to a computer connected to the GoPrint Release Station (open computer labs or library).
    2. Send your print job to the printer.
    3. Locate the GoPrint monitor next to the printer.
    4. Find and select your username from the screen.
    5. Select your print job and click CONTINUE.
    6. Enter your StarID username and password.
    7. If necessary, you may view your purse balance in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
    8. When ready, click PAY AND PRINT to print your job.

    *Print jobs automatically delete from the system in two (2) hours if not released printed.

  • Using the “Add Value Station” to add money to your purse
    1. Find a GoPrint “Add Value Station” (room 3225 open computer lab or the library).
    2. Enter your StarID username and password.
    3. Insert cash in the cash slot. The amount should automatically credit your account.
    4. Press the letter “D” on the keypad to end the session.
    5. Take your receipt and keep it for your records.
  • Mobile Printing (from Personal Devices)
    • Currently enrolled students may use mobile printing methods to print from personal devices including smartphones, laptops and tablets. Charges will be applied accordingly to their GoPrint accounts.

Safe Computing
  • Tips and best practices
    • Install a good endpoint protection program, update it regularly, and scan often. Endpoint protection software protects at a higher level than a standard anti-virus program.
    • Use strong and secure passwords. Most systems require you to enter a password. The purpose is to prevent others from posing as you or accessing your data. Use a strong password, and keep your password secure by not writing it down or sharing it with others.
    • Use screen saver passwords and system passwords whenever possible. Lock the screen to protect your computer when you step away, even for a few minutes.
    • Update your operating system. Use your operating system's automatic-update features to keep your system protected.
    • Do not open email attachments or click on email hyperlinks unless you are expecting them from a specific sender. Email headers can be changed or simulated, so even if you think the mail came from a friend, don't click on or open the attachment until you verify that the sender actually sent it.
    • Don't download software or files from the Internet of unknown origin and/or unknown security. Some software, including screen savers, can include features that make your computer vulnerable or allow access to your personal data without your knowledge or permission. To check for this type of software, download and run a spyware/adware checker.
    • Don't let just anyone use your computer. You are responsible for all use of your computer. Do not make it easily accessible to strangers.
    • Backup your data regularly. You should frequently back up all work that you do on your computer. Data saved on your computer's hard drive can easily be lost if the hard drive fails. Utilize cloud storage when possible.
    • Turn off your computer whenever you will not be using it for several hours. Unattended computers that are linked to the network are vulnerable to hackers. Turning off your computer also saves energy.
    • Protect your data by thinking twice before sharing or printing. Incidents have occurred in which data has been transferred inadvertently to non-secure sites and made public.

Standard Campus Technology

Saint Paul College is a Windows-based Dell PC campus. We offer limited access to and support for Macintosh computers and operating systems for select programs.

Standard campus software applications include Adobe Reader, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, VLC Media Player and Microsoft Endpoint Protection.

The College utilizes HP printers and Konica Minolta copiers.

iPads are available for checkout through the College Library​.


StarID is the Minnesota State universal login ID. You are assigned a StarID before you register for classes at Saint Paul College. This is a 2-letter, 4-number, 2-letter identifier (for example, ab1234cd). You will use this login to access all campus-related technology and services (excluding the CAPS jobs program).

Never share your login information with anyone. Only you are permitted to use your login to access campus technology.

  • Reset StarID password
    • Visit the Minnesota State StarID Self Service page at to reset your StarID password and manage your account.
  • StarID versus TechID
    • Tech ID (also known as your student ID number) is your unique student identifier at Saint Paul College. This number is assigned to you when you apply to the College, and is a permanent part of your student record. You may be asked to supply this number when staff are attempting to look up your student record.
    • StarID is a universal login username. You will use StarID to login to various campus technology systems. You only have to activate your StarID once (at any Minnesota State campus). After activation, your StarID account will follow you to any Minnesota State campus.
Text Message Notifications

Saint Paul College can send you text messages related to important campus information and events, including:

  • Opt-in to Receive Text Messages
    1. ​​​ Go to and login using your StarID and password.
    2. Read and Accept the Terms and Conditions.
    3. Select “St Paul College-Comm and Tech College”.
    4. Enter and save your cell phone number and service provider information.
    5. IMPORTANT - Verification step: A new web page will appear telling you “MNSCU sent a text message to you!”. You will immediately receive a text message on your cell phone with a PIN. Enter the PIN in the space provided.

  • Atomic Learning
    • Atomic Learning offers unlimited access to a library of online training video tutorials that explain how to complete both simple and complex tasks in many popular software titles. Other relevant topics include how to properly format a paper, plagiarism, and more.
    • Access Atomic Learning from the “Student Resources” section of the website. You cannot gain access by going directly to the vendor site. You must use the Saint Paul College website link to access Atomic Learning. If you log out and need to log back in, return the College website and click the link.
    • Login using your StarID and password.
  • Student Technology Orientation
  • Saint Paul College offers a Student Technology Orientation for both new and current students.
    • Student Technology Orientation includes:

    Current Saint Paul College students may utilize campus wireless on personal devices. We do not provide guest or temporary accounts to relatives or friends. We do not offer an open wireless network.
  • ​ Steps for students to connect to wireless:
    • Open Wireless Properties on mobile phone, or View Available Wireless Networks on your computing device.
    • Find and select to connect to SSID: SPC_Student_Guest
    • Open any web browser to authenticate.
    • When prompted, enter your StarID and password.
    • You must click ACCEPT to agree to the wireless Terms of Service to gain access to the wireless network.
