E-mail Penny Starkey
At Saint Paul College, Penny Starkey is the Department Chair of Science. She currently teaches Principles of Chemistry 1 and 2, General Physics 1 and 2, and Natural Disasters. She originally was hired at Saint Paul College as a part-time instructor in 2002, and became a full-time instructor in Liberal Arts and Sciences in 2004. Penny has also taught Introductory Physics at Saint Paul College and the College of St. Catherine. She earned a PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Minnesota, after earning a BA in Physics at the University of St. Thomas. Prior to coming to Saint Paul College, she worked for 5 years in industry, most recently in the biomedical device field. Penny enjoys helping students understand and appreciate chemistry, while also helping them move towards their career goals.
E-mail Travis Mills
Travis Mills teaches Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 as well as the Chemical and Biological Instrumentation course at Saint Paul College. He also manages the Instrumentation Lab and Cleanroom, which includes chemical instrumentation unique to a 2 year college. Travis was hired as a full time faculty member in the summer of 2013. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota in 2009 with an emphasis in Materials Chemistry, where he conducted research focused on organic electronics and organic photovoltaic devices. Prior to that, he earned a B.S. in Biochemistry from Saint Cloud State University.
Travis has been teaching Chemistry in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system since 2009 and enjoys interacting with students in the classroom and helping them with career decisions. Outside of school he loves to travel, ski, boat, and spend time with his family.
