May 14, 2012 was indeed an historic occasion as Dr. Rassoul Dastmozd presided over his first commencement ceremony as president of Saint Paul College, conferring degrees, diplomas and certificates upon the exuberant Class of 2012. Families, friends, and community members, along with faculty, staff, and administration filled the Roy Wilkins auditorium on a perfect evening.
Our college was honored to have Chancellor Steven Rosenstone in attendance to congratulate each graduate and give the commencement address. Chancellor Rosenstone heads Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, from which over 35,000 students will graduate in 2012. In his remarks, Chancellor Rosenstone said “Your promise is great, but so are the challenges. You and your fellow graduates will decide what kind of world this will be in fifty years...you have received a world class education.”
Saint Paul College Interim Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Development, Dr. Marilyn Krasowski, told the graduates that, “We know as educators, that who you are as students is what inspires us to teach. There is no better celebration of this past year, for me,
than to be standing before you, the Class of 2012.”
Many graduates of the Class of 2012 are already employed in their new career, or transferring to another college to complete their 4-year degree. The graduates also included twenty-nine students from the Power of YOU program, which is dedicated to providing cost-free tuition
for underserved students.
Expressing the sentiments of the College community, President Dastmozd told the graduates, “Saint Paul College is a place where a beautiful and extraordinary tapestry of humanity comes together in pursuit of their goals and purpose in life. How you came to the College - and where
you are going - is as unique as each individual seated before me. You are woven into the fabric of what our college is and will be.”
Congratulations to the students in the graduating Class of 2012!
