StarID

 

The StarID is a username that will be used across the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system to access information technology systems and services. As systems are configured to use StarID, the number of usernames and passwords students and employees will need to remember and use will be reduced. Ideally, a single username can be used to log into any system and that will be StarID.

To activate your StarID, go to starid.mnscu.edu, select Activate StarID to retrieve your StarID and set the password. You will need your MnSCU Tech ID number and your social security number to activate StarID.

Saint Paul College has migrated staff, faculty, and students to StarID.

Important notes for employees:

  • Employees will use StarID to access campus computers, campus WI-FI, ISRS, eServices, STARS, eTimesheet, Remote Desktop, D2L, and Early Warning System.
  • Your email address is firstname.lastname@saintpaul.edu.

Important note for students:

  • Students will use StarID to access campus computers, campus WI-FI, Desire2Learn (D2L), Student email (office 365), Orgsync, GoPrint, Atomic Learning, eServices, and D2L.

Any mobile devices currently synced to your email or WI-FI will need to be updated to StarID credentials (userid and password).

What is a StarID?

The StarID is a username that will be used across the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities to access information technology systems and services. As systems are configured to use StarID, the number of usernames and passwords students and employees will need to remember and use will be reduced. Ideally, a single username can be used to log into any system and that will be StarID.

What can I do with my StarID?

Each college and university can enable access to their individual IT systems with StarID. The most common of these systems include; student and employee email, campus computers and printers, Desire2Lean (D2L) and eServices.

Check with Information Technology Services at your college or university to learn which of their IT systems have been enabled to use StarID.

A number of systemwide IT systems accept a StarID wherever the system is used. Here are a few of these systems:

  • ISRS - All ISRS administrative web applications are configured to use StarID for login. See a list of these applications. Student-facing applications (eServices) at schools that have integrated with the IAM system will accept StarID.
  • MoveItSecurely - MoveItSecurely facilitates the secure sharing of information.
  • STARS - STARS (Systemwide Training and Registration Site).
  • StarLAN - A wireless service that gives visiting employees and students access to the Internet.
How do I change my password?

To change your password follow these instructions:

  1. Visit the web site "starid.mnscu.edu"
  2. Select "Change Password"
  3. Login to the StarID Self Service Login page with your current StarID password, if prompted to do so
  4. Enter your new password into the text boxes
  5. Select the "Change password" button at the bottom of the page
My password has expired.

You may log into StarID Self Service with your old (expired) password — just follow the expired password link on the StarID home page. You'll be asked to change your password immediately.

What are the password requirements?

The password complexity requirement associated with the StarID complies with the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities password security guideline. Passwords must meet or exceed these criteria:

  • Changed at least every 180 days.
  • Between 8 and 128 characters long.
  • Use at least 3 of the following types of characters: uppercase, lowercase, numbers, special characters.
  • May not have been used before.

Special characters include characters like these: !@#$%^&*()_+=-`{}[]|\:";'<>,.?/

What's my Tech ID (also known as Employee ID or Student ID)?

Your Tech ID (sometimes referred to as 'employee ID' or 'student ID') is an eight-digit number that identifies a person’s record in ISRS, the main record system used by the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. The school's HR office can provide employees with their Tech ID. Students can get their Tech ID from student support staff at their school.

What's my state employee number?

Your state employee number is an eight-digit number that identifies your record in the State of Minnesota payroll system called SEMA4. Your state employee number is often referred to as a SEMA4 ID because it is associated with the SEMA4 system. Your employer's HR office can provide you the SEMA4 number associated with your employee record in SEMA4.

What's a verification code?

A verification code is a case-sensitive string of letters and numbers that is temporarily associated with your StarID. The code can be used to verify your identity if you have forgotten your StarID and/or StarID password. You can obtain a verification code by first selecting the 'Personal Email' option. The StarID system will verify that an email address that you enter is on record in the system and then use it to send you a verification code. A verification code automatically expires in one hour and can be used only once.
