Succession Planning

If your organization is expecting a shift in the workforce because many of your employees will be retiring or because you have a turnover rate that is higher then you like succession planning may be the answer. Succession planning ensures that there are highly qualified people in all positions not just today, but next year and five years from now. In the past succession planning has only targeted Leadership positions, but now it includes all key positions. Succession plans will match employee strengths and employee wishes with the workforce skills needed by the organization.

A good succession plan will include:

  • Communication Strategy
  • Identification of expected vacancies
  • Create and assesses selection tools
  • Identify gaps in current employee competency levels
  • Create individual employee developments plans
  • Determine standards for position movement
  • Develop and implement a coaching and mentoring program
  • Assist with leadership transition and development
